Soap legend Dolly Fairweather has married in a secret midnight ceremony at Gretna Green, we can exclusively reveal.

The 61-year-old, who has played barmaid Maureen Tripp on *Brook Street* for 28 years, said “I do” to antiques dealer Graham Pell just before midnight on Tuesday. Only two witnesses were there: the registrar’s husband and a very smart cocker spaniel called Biscuit.

Dolly wore a cream trouser suit and a borrowed veil. Graham, 58, arrived straight from a house clearance in Carlisle and had to be lent a tie by the blacksmith’s next door.

## “We did not want a circus”

A friend of the couple told us: “Dolly has had two big weddings and both were a disaster. This time she wanted nobody there but the people who mattered. In the end that meant the dog.”

The pair met 18 months ago when Dolly carried a tea chest into Graham’s shop and asked what it was worth. “He said forty quid and she says that was the moment she knew he was honest,” said the pal.

They drove north in Graham’s 1998 estate car, stopping at a service station near Penrith for two sausage rolls and a coffee each. Our source says they giggled all the way up the M6.

> She will find out from the paper, like everybody else.

That is how one friend says Dolly joked about telling her 87-year-old mother, who has still not been informed.

## Bosses caught out

A spokesman for the show’s production company said: “We are delighted for Dolly and wish her and Graham every happiness.” Insiders say executives only found out on Wednesday morning, when a make-up artist spotted the ring.

The wedding is not expected to change her storyline, in which Maureen is feuding with the pub’s new landlord over a missing jukebox. A wedding for her character could follow “when the ratings need it”, according to one writer.

The newlyweds are understood to be honeymooning in the Lake District. Graham has reportedly told friends he would not know a beach if one hit him in the face.
