A fan favourite from *Brook Street* broke down in tears as she revealed she is leaving the soap after nine years.

Sasha Whitlock, 38, who plays nurse Gemma Kerr, told friends she had been “pushed out” after a row with producers over her character’s future.

“I never wanted to leave,” she told us. “I love the cast, I love the crew and I love Gemma. But I was told there were no more stories for her.”

## A shock for the cast

The news was broken to colleagues at a read-through last week. Witnesses say several of the cast cried and one actor left the room.

A source on set said: “Everybody adores Sasha. It has hit the whole building hard. There is talk of a collection for a leaving present and nobody can agree what to buy.”

Her exit storyline is under wraps, but fans have been warned to expect “a big, emotional finish”. Producers deny that Sasha was forced out. A spokesman said: “Sasha has been a much-loved member of the cast and we are working with her on a fitting farewell.”

## What next?

Sasha is now said to be considering offers from the theatre, including a role in a West End revival, and has told friends she would like to try a comedy. “I want to do something where I do not have to be sad in a corridor,” she said.
