Two of Britain’s best-known stars have swapped their multi-million-pound mansions for a month, and it has gone spectacularly wrong.

Pop singer Lola Vane, 34, and chat-show host Barry Quill, 56, agreed a £5million house swap in the summer, handing over the keys to her gothic Surrey pile and his glass-fronted Cotswolds retreat.

By the second weekend they were not speaking.

## Housewarming from hell

Barry arrived at Lola’s house to find 14 bedrooms, a chapel and a spiral staircase that, as he put it to friends, “wanted to kill me”. Lola reached his place to discover a kitchen with no handles on any of the cupboards. “She was in there for 40 minutes before she found out they open when you press them,” said an insider.

The row began when Barry’s housekeeper wandered into Lola’s guest wing during a private party. Lola’s pug, Duchess, is then said to have been fed a plate of smoked salmon meant for the guests.

> I did not know a pug could have opinions about carpaccio.

Barry is understood to have made that remark to a member of staff and was overheard.

## Lawyers on standby

Both camps insist things are friendly. A spokeswoman for Lola said: “Lola and Barry are great friends and the swap has been a wonderful experience.” A spokesman for Barry said only: “No comment on the carpaccio.”

A source said: “The agreement says they swap back on the 30th. Both of them are now counting down the days like prisoners.”

Neighbours have reported seeing Lola in the Cotswolds village shop buying biscuits, “alone and looking lost”.
